Movie watchers, do not mind the calm 1 hour 10 minutes of this movie, because as soon as these young good friends are forced into war in the Vietnam War together (American - Vietname war) for those who are not from the USA, the movie takes off! The young men are stuck in a situation (no spoilers) where they have to fight for their lives in Vietnam. It is a fascinating story which escalates and escalates and Escalates! until. the end!
The movie begins with character building, which any good movie or book does: The Matrix, Eisenhorn (book) The Shawshank Redemption, all which build up character development over a bit of time to give you a total better experience than a 'flick. This will not be in your flick category but will instead enter into your 'quality film' category. Enjoy! War Movie / Drama genre.

One of the worst films ever made. The entire beginning of the movie paralleled my own life. Smoke stack town. The town I grew up in was polish but a lot like this Russian Orthodox church and wedding. we even had our wedding reception in a American Legion Hall. The old ladies acting the same. Deer hunting with my friends. And my wife said to me, that bar scene with them singing was just exactly like you and your boys. We probably had about 25 guys go to Vietnam from my area in those years and believe it or not we did not lose one guy. They all came home but some had thier share of problems. Christopher Walken about 40 years before Jersey Bo. Also odd he did this then years later same song in Jersey Boys. GREAT DIRECTED! NICE MOVIES. When they go deer hunting they are clearly not in Pennsylvania.

I'm not going to go into detail about this film. All that there is to say is that it ranks as one of the best films about the effects of war ever. Now more than ever this film needs to be seen by people, all people, the world over. I can see why some don't like this film, because it's very real. It's hard to deal with reality sometimes, and most would like to escape reality when watching a movie. Well, if escaping reality when watching a movie is what you want, then I strongly advise you not to watch this film. However, if you're aware as to what is going on in the world today and aren't afraid to face reality, though presented as a work of great art here, then this film comes highly recommended. 10/10.
